2-Minute Sleep Tip: The #1 Investment for Better Sleep


If your teen spends a lot of time awake in bed, they may have developed an unhelpful association with their bed.

This is a really common and very powerful factor that drives insomnia.

The good news? Your teen can retrain themselves to associate bed with 'sleep' mode as opposed to 'awake' mode, but this involves reducing time awake in bed. Most teens understandably love to hang out in bed and resist this retraining process unless they have a solid alternate plan.

2-MINUTE ACTION:

Estimate how much time your teen spends awake in bed in a typical 24-hour period. Include time in bed trying to fall sleep (at the beginning of the night and during awakenings), after their alarm goes off, as well as during waking hours when doing other things like homework, relaxing, scrolling, etc.

If your teen struggles with sleep and spends more than an hour awake in bed, there’s a strong chance they could benefit from this retraining.
